Concussion

A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. It can occur from a direct blow to the head or the body resulting in force being transmitted up to the brain. Even a mild bump can be serious and cause a Concussion. Concussions can have a more serious effect on the young developing brain and should be addressed correctly.

Baseline Exam

A baseline exam is a pre-season exam to assess the balance and brain function (including learning and memory skills, ability to pay attention or concentrate, and how quickly he or she thinks and solve problems), as well as for the presence of any concussion symptoms. If someone sustains a suspected concussion, those test results can be compared with the baseline exam for appropriate diagnosis. Thus, baselines ensure diagnosis of  concussion and level of severity.

Treatment

When people get a Concussion, they often don’t think of going to a Sports Chiropractor for help during the recovery process. The brain is the most important organ in the body and the brain stem extends down to the first and second vertebrae in your neck. If these bones become misaligned during the whiplash/concussion, they can affect the function of the brain. Misalignments in the spine can cause an imbalance in the nervous system by decreasing vagal tone (rest and digest mode), an important during the recovery and overall health. Seeking medical help right away plays such an important role in the overall recovery process.
